The Storyteller

Jesus is one of the greatest storytellers. The gospels are filled with His parables that have lessons far more significant than what appears to be on the surface. His stories gave people the opportunity to open their hearts and let God rewrite how they lived. He showed us truths that we may find for ourselves. The parable of the sower’s seeds allows us to learn what happens when we receive the seed or the word of God in our hearts. The story of the prodigal son shows us the power of unconditional love against the backdrop of a culture that had limits on love. And the story of the widow’s two mites showed us how to give gifts that have meaning in the sight of our Heavenly Father.

Master of Conversations

Jesus was also the Master of conversations. He knew how to bring the kingdom of God to the heart of listeners. The woman at the well thought she would simply fill her jug of water and go back home. But when she met Jesus, He showed her the kingdom, and she ran to share the redeeming news with her community. Nicodemus came to Jesus at night and left the Master with a new perspective on living. Even Peter had a heart-wrenching encounter with Jesus, turning him from a fisherman to a powerful speaker. He gave a sermon, and 3,000 were baptized in one day.

Jesus told deep stories and shared words that changed lives. His words made people think long after He was gone. It’s been over 2,000 years, and we still read and examine the stories of Jesus. We still learn lessons and grow from the words He left for us. He let His life on earth become living words so that we could get a glimpse into a love story that is changing the course of this world.

I pray that the stories we tell with our lives look like the love story that Jesus told the world. Through the work of God in our hearts, we can share words that testify of unconditional love. I pray that we tell His story through our lives. So I wonder, what story will I tell today? What story will you tell?
