Should I have children?

Yes. If you are married. If God has provided for you the financial resources to care for a child. Also if God has given you love for your future children. And if God provides them to you.

Some people fear the world is getting so evil and corrupt that they don’t want to bring children into it. But this ignores the keeping power of God. If God has been able to keep you, he will be able to keep your children. And in every age, God needs young people from godly homes to provide leadership and stability in the church.

Here are some Bible passages that speak of children very positively:

  • They are a heritage from the Lord. Psalm 127:3
  • From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation. 2 Timothy 3:15
  • Let the little children come to me and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Luke 18:16

Not every couple can have offspring. There are biological reasons for many people, psychological reasons for a few people. We should not look down on those who are childless. But those who are gifted by God with children will learn something of God’s personality and character through parenting that they can learn no other way.
