New Mercies

Have you ever reached a point where you felt like stress and worry would consume you? I reached that place a few weeks ago. I was struggling to keep up with a never-ending to-do list, and all I could think about as I opened my eyes each morning was, “How am I ever going to get through this day?” Constantly, I was anxious and harried by time. My mind was suffocated by worry. As a result, I felt I had lost my peace, passion, and joy. I was still reading the Bible everyday, journaling my thoughts, and praying, but I didn’t take time to still my heart and mind to receive the peace of His presence.

His Mercies, Grace, and Freedom

Eventually, I realized the negativity of my situation. I was stuck and it was time to get free! I began to fast and pray. God started to teach me that regardless of how I felt, His word was truth. Even though I didn’t “feel” peace, clarity, passion or joy, I realized it was time to walk in faith and believe His promises. I finally came to understand that the word of God is the final authority in my life. God’s promises are not based on my feelings or my circumstances.

One day as I was reading, I came across this verse: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in Him’” (Lamentations 3: 22-24). His mercy, grace and the freedom that is mine because of the cross will NEVER come to an end! He is my portion and I can hope in Him regardless of what is happening in me or around me! As I started to believe this and apply it to my life, my joy, passion and peace came back.

His Mercies Are New Every Morning

I don’t know what you are going through today. Maybe you are in a place of complacency or struggling from a lack of passion or clarity. Maybe you are facing insurmountable challenges in a relationship. Financial trouble could be choking you, and stress could be heaping up. Physical or verbal abuse could be stealing your joy, but take courage! His mercies are new every morning! His love never ceases and He is faithful! Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Because His word is our final authority, we can be sure of this:

We are forgiven and free from all shame (Romans 8:1-2).

We have no fear or anxiety (Luke 12:22-32).

And we are equipped and resourced to do everything God has called us to do (Deut. 8:18; Phil. 4:13; James 1:5).

We have no insecurities because we see ourselves through God’s eyes (Psalms 139:13-16).

And we are enabled to walk in the sacrificial love of Christ (1 John 4:9-12).

This is the truth. This is our identity.
