Spirit possession occurs at different levels. Any time our decisions are influenced and altered by a particular perspective or frame of mind, we are being led, guided, or controlled by that perspective (for good or evil). You may say, “I am free to choose my path. I can do whatever I want.” I agree completely, but our wants are usually dictated by our frame of reference, or worldview.
The Apostle Paul wrestled with his natural tendencies and found it extremely difficult to control his desires.
“I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. Yet, I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it…
“I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?” (Romans 7:18-24, NLT)
The Only Solution
The only solution is to be filled with God’s spiritual orientation and frame of mind. When we come to the point where we begin to think like God, we will start acting like Him.
The incarnation of Christ in Bethlehem was more than a historical moment in time. It is a symbol of God’s promise to be born into the hearts of each one who allows themselves to be “impregnated” with heaven’s love. It is God’s pathway—a Trojan horse—into the realm of darkness that seals the eventual demise of hatred and bigotry! This is why Christmas should be celebrated every day!
