My Adversary

Dear God: I’m exhausted and feel like I’ve been fighting a war with one hand tied behind my back. I have misjudged my opponent. He knows me so much better than I know him. In fact, he’s been described as a roaring lion. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour, 1 Peter 5:8.

Not only that, his work is 24/7. The adversary never rests from trying to get us away from God. Revelation 12:10 reminds us that he accuses us before God day and night.

So what does that mean for me? Knowing Satan’s whole design is to devour and destroy me, I must be vigilant and suspicious of constant danger. The Lord’s prayer should be my constant companion: Lead me not into temptation and deliver me from evil. I’ve got to believe that he’s ready to deliver me when I ask him.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
