More Than Rules

People who say one thing and do another aren’t good role models. They may have lofty ideals and be able to articulate worthy goals, but if it is only talk that never gets put into practice, forget it! Don’t pattern your life after their example. Once, when Jesus was addressing His disciples, He said,

“The religion scholars and Pharisees are competent teachers in God’s Law. You won’t go wrong in following their teachings on Moses. But be careful about following them. They talk a good line, but they don’t live it. They don’t take it into their hearts and live it out in their behavior. It’s all spit-and-polish veneer” Matthew 23:2-3.

True religion bridges the gap between the head and the heart; between belief and action. Today, ask God for strength to help you live what you know and believe.
