Don’t Worry

Dear God: Thank you for waking me to a new day of hope and grace. You say there is no need to worry, yet life on this planet is fraught with trouble. The 9.0 earthquake that hit eastern Japan is a prime example of something that temps me to worry big-time. I saw what the poor people of Sendai experienced and can only ask, “When tragedies of this magnitude strike, how can we not worry?” To not worry almost seems counter-intuitive and a colossal act of stupidity. Yet, Jesus said:

“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” (Matthew 6: 25-27) NKJV.

Jesus, you said that worry is non-productive. It doesn’t remedy anything. Yet, it is such a human thing to do. It is so natural to stress out and obsess over what to do. Please deliver me from this temptation.

Show Me How I Can Help

Be with the people of Sendai, and other like tragedies. Show me how I can be of help. Seeing disastrous images on television reminds me that we live on a broken planet. Each day brings fresh tragedies and heartaches that need to be responded to. I want to help.

I long for this planet and all who live on it to be safe, physically and spiritually. Please send your Son Jesus to renew our hearts with the hope of your soon Coming.

In Jesus’ name. Amen!
