Still Alone

Dear God: Why am I still alone? I’ve been single for many years now—after a marriage of 29 years. I’m lonely. I thought I found a best friend and then Charlotte started dating someone. And then there’s Ruth. She signed up on a Christian dating website and now she’s married. I signed up and got a date with a guy who wore three pocket protectors and then complained that my jeans weren’t appropriate for a date. Then there’s Sue … I don’t even want to talk about Sue.

OK, thank for you reminding me just now about how full my life is with church, work and family. Most of the time, there’s so much on my calendar that I wouldn’t possibly have time for dating, for the courting dance that takes so much effort.

Thank you for reminding me that I’m never really alone. That you have promised to be my husband: “For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name (Isaiah 54:5, NKJV). Thank you for that assurance and for my friends, my church, my grandchildren and my precious children. My life is so full.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
