Grandchildren Are a Delight

Dear God: Who knew grandchildren would be such a delight? I know I’ve talked to you a lot about my children: when they were babies, when they started school, when they got their driver’s license, when they got married. I still do bring them to you in prayer. You sustained me through it all and, miracles upon miracles, my children became fantastic adults and married godly partners. And now the pièce de résistance — grandchildren.

I’ve made some changes in the way I see parenting/grandparenting. I’m having more fun. We’re playing more — getting dirtier. There are sleepovers and trips to IHOP. And I hug my grandchildren more, delight more in the things they say and ignore more unimportant behavior.

Thank You for the opportunity to see the next generation and realize that you knew all along how precious children were when you chastised your disciples for shooing them off. You knew that your kingdom was made up of people just like those children (Matthew 19:13-15).

In Jesus’ name, amen.
